 Antenatal / Postnatal Care

The Doctors and Community Midwives hold a clinic on Tuesday afternoons 1.30-3.30pm. Appointments for advice on all aspects of care in pregnancy, including preparation for pregnancy, can be made at reception. The postnatal check for mother and baby is also done at this clinic.   Our Midwives can provide care and support for home births.  Our Midwife is Janey Hopkins.

 Child Health Clinic

Children aged five and under may be seen in the child health clinic on the first and third Tuesday afternoons of each months.  Our Health Visitor is Carmel Goodacre and can offer advice and guidance on child behaviour including sleeping problems, eating habits, toilet training etc.  Please ask reception to book your appointment with Carmel.  In addition a walk-in child health clinic is available to our parents at West Bridgford Health Centre on Musters Road every Tuesday between 1.30 - 3.30 and Thursdays between 9.30 - 11.30.

 Minor Operations

The Doctors carry out various minor surgical procedures where necessary. These include removal of lumps or cysts, freezing of warts and verrucas, joint injections and hormone implants. Please see a Doctor to discuss these.

 Practice Nurse Clinics

Please make an appointment to see one of our nurses if you need guidance on the following.

  • Holiday/travel immunisation and advice.  Please plan 8 weeks before travel for maximum protection.  Some vaccines are provided free of charge.  Please make a telephone appointment to speak with one of the nurses, when they will inform you if any charge applies.  Please note the Practice only accepts cash or cheque as payment
  • Yellow Fever vaccinations.
  • Childhood immunisations.
  • Blood tests.
  • Blood pressure checks.
  • C-card scheme (confidential teenage health advice for 13-19 year olds)
  • Family planning and contraception advice
  • Menopause and osteoporosis reviews
  • Ear syringing after a check by the doctor
  • Diet advice and weight management
  • Asthma, diabetes and heart disease reviews including spirometry and ECG testing
  • Advice on blood cholesterol, breast examination, exercise, smoking and alcohol
  • Cervical smears.  It is very important that all women under 65 have this simple test to try and prevent cancer of the cervix.  This test is repeated every 3-5 years if normal.  An abnormal smear result should be discussed with your doctor or nurse.  Please make sure you telephone the Practice to obtain a result of your smear test.
  • Well Man and Well Woman health checks
  • Wound dressing and stitch removal
  • Warfarin and rheumatology drugs monitoring
  • The nurses are also available to give advice and guidance over the telephone

 

IMPORTANT VACCINES

Influenza

This free vaccine is recommended each September - January for patients with chronic respiratory disease including asthma, diabetes, kidney illness, chronic liver disease, heart disease, people with a weakened immune system, people who are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person and also people aged 65 or over.

Pneumoccal

This vaccine is offered every 5 years to patients with problems as above and is particularly important to anyone without a spleen.  It helps prevent a common cause of pneumonia.

Tetanus and Polio

A booster is recommended every 10 years for travel only.  Please speak to the Practice Nurse for further information.

Childhood Vaccinations

These are important to prevent significant disease in young children.  If you have any concerns about your child having a vaccination please speak to one of our health care professionals.
